Restaurant Review: Marche at Plaza Senayan

Marche is a Swiss restaurant that seeks to imitate Switzerland’s country life. The decorations are pretty detailed and impressive. Each of the food stands are filled with real produce, both as decoration and ingredients. It makes me wonder if they are going to be cooked and eaten though.

We ordered a plain roesti, pasta with chicken homemade sauce, a garlic bread, an a cheese brioche. I notice that they are made with high quality ingredients although not every food I try is for my taste, but only because I don’t like creamy pasta. For people who loves creamy pasta, the pasta is excellent. It tastes mild but flavorful. The roesti is excellent, especially eaten with sour cream! But the mustard tastes strange to my taste bud. The garlic bread is a little bit hard, they overheated it in the oven I guess. I brought home the cheese brioche. They are so full with cheese and rich.

The price is not exactly cheap, but I can’t say it’s too expensive either. After all the food is quite good with high quality. But I must admit I’m a little annoyed at the drink price. I chose to drink Equil because  a bottle of Equil is Rp 19000 plus tax and a bottle of Aqua is Rp 15000, which is ridiculous.  The ice lemon tea too is wayyy overpriced. The hot drinks price are similar or slightly lower from Starbucks, so I won’t complain. If Starbucks can get away with it, why not this restaurant with more unique concepts and fantastic decoration? I haven’t tried the herbal tea or the coffee though. I should on next visit if I have a chance.

Now about the pastry:  most of the cakes such as opera and apple strudel cost around Rp 39000, but they are quite big slices.  I didn’t order it because I am too full already and I can’t finish such a big slice of cake. I also can get the cake with lower price at other place. Opera, apple strudel, and fruit cheesecake can be easily found elsewhere here. Why not just make them to smaller pieces  and lower price. For some strange reason, the apple compote portion is very small. I think with the price, they should give more, it is not a difficult dessert to make.

I love that their price is tax included and they have a reward program that doesn’t have a deadline and for reasonable amount of purchase. At 3rd stamp we collect (a stamp for every visit where we order for more than Rp 100.000,-), if we order for more than Rp 100.000,- we will get a free tea or coffee and there are more reward for later visits.

I want to try their other menu for next visit (if I get the chance), but overall, it is an excellent and unique  restaurant in Jakarta. Truthfully, I’m bored with pretentiously expensive restaurant which taste mediocre.

Anyway, here are some of my photos of me and my sister from Marche:
