There are many new restaurant and cafes that try to serve Singaporean street food. They are usually named Kopitiam (or cafe in Hokkian Chinese, a popular term for a cafe stall in Singapore). In Serpong, Tangerang, there are 2 most prominent Kopitiam.
There are a few Lau’s Kopitiam branches that I know of, one at TerasKota BSD, one at Gading Serpong, and another at Emporium Pluit, Jakarta. I’ve tried the stalls at TerasKota and Gading Serpong. I’ve eaten several times, mostly at the stall at Gading Serpong. The prices are reasonable, especially the beverages. I love the toasts I nicked from my friend. I’m not too fond of the Hainanese Chicken Rice. There was nothing wrong with it I suppose, but it’s not to my taste. I like the cooked kway teow (kway teow siram) and the fried kway teow was not too bad either. The fishballs noodles are too salty, and I don’t like the laksa as it is too creamy for my taste. (But it might suit some people’s taste, especially if you like thick creamy soup)
Eastern Kopitiam is located at Flavor Bliss, Alam Sutra. I’ve tried the siumay, fried kway teow, Hainanese chicken rice and chicken noodles. I really love the Hainanase chicken rice. The rice tasted so fragrant! The roast selection is good: the roast duck, boiled chicken, roast chicken, and chicken char siew. The price is reasonable too. The fried kway teow was too sweet for my taste. The siu may, however, tasted horrible with strange aftertaste I couldn’t get rid of. I think it was made from frozen food and not originally made by the restaurant. I will definitely eat there again, but only for the Hainanese chicken rice.
